Nach Portmagee kommt man nicht nur der Pubs wegen. Von hier starten kleine Boote, die Besucher auf zwei vorgelagerte Felseninseln bringen: Little Skellig und Skellig Michael[{GoogleMap location='Skellig Michael, Ireland' zoom='11'}]. Auf der einen sind unzählige Seevögel zuhause, auf der anderen fristeten Mönche ein weltabgeschiedenes Leben. Wer auf Skellig Michael auch an Land gehen möchte, muss seine Bootstour schon Monate im Voraus buchen, denn der Andrang ist groß und die Anzahl der täglichen Besucher streng limitiert. Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass die Felsen nur bei gutem Wetter und ruhiger See erreichbar sind, was hier nicht allzu oft der Fall ist. Man braucht also viel Glück, um diese einzigartige Sehenswürdigkeit erkunden zu können

People do not only visit Portmagee because of the pubs. From here start small boats that bring visitors to two offshore rocky islands: Little Skellig and Skellig Michael[{GoogleMap location='Skellig Michael, Ireland' zoom='11'}]. On the one hand innumerable seabirds live there, on the other monks lived a secluded life. If you want to go ashore on Skellig Michael, you have to book the boat trip months in advance, because the rush is large and the number of daily visitors strictly limited. To make matters worse, the rocks are only accessible if the weather is fine and the sea calm, which is not often the case here. So you need to have good luck to explore this unique sight.
