Friedrich Cerhas (1926 Vienna) confrontation with the New Viennese School was not just theoretical; the most famous result was his completion of Berg's Opera'' Lulu''.
As a composer, he developed new serial techniques and
sound-phenomenons in relation to his own experiences. His opera
''Baal'' (1974-1979), is a proverb about the creative search for
happiness, uniting all the possibilities of structural
formation - blankets of sound as well as clearly-defined
melodic-harmonic sections. According to the demands of the dramatic
situation (Example), the expressive dialogue dominates in relation to
the orchestra which paints the emotional situation. This enabled Cerha
to actualize opera as a paradigm. (M. Saary)
