Gymnasium, Realgymnasium and Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium fuer Berufstaetige (secondary schools for working people): schools that enable people who are working or have finished their apprenticeship and are over 17-years old to go to a school that provides general education and to acquire the "Hochschulreife" (academic standard required for university entrance, approx. A-Levels or High School Graduation) within 9 semesters ( Abendschulen). The forerunners, "Arbeitermittelschulen" (secondary schools for workers) were introduced in 1927, in 1962 they were re-organised and given the present names. These types of schools have been established at Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Linz, Villach, Vienna and Wiener Neustadt.
