273 11.6 Conclusion Human health is intricately linked with the natural environment. Preservation of the variety of life on the planet is essential to maintain the complex interdependencies between ecosystems and human life. Biodiversity, because of its fundamental rela- tionship with ecosystems services, helps to mitigate the effects of climate change, but is itself at risk of loss due to climate change.
