1. INTRODUCTION
The Republic of Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world
about 13,466 large and small islands. Indonesia is straddling along the equator,
situated between the continents of Asia and Ausralia and between the Pacific
and the Indian Oceans. Lies between 95º - 141º East Longitude and 6º North to
11º South Latitude.
Currently, the number of watersheds in Indonesia is 131 river basins. This
amount consist of 5 across the country, 29 across the province, 29 national
strategic, 53 across districts, and 15 cities watersheds spreading around the
country that more than 5,800 rivers, 500 natural lakes and 214 dams. Indonesia
has 2 (two) seasons : dry and rainy seasons. Dry usually occurs from June to
September and the rest is rainy season. The average annual precipitation varies
1,5000 mm in eastern region to 2,600 mm in the west.
