Chapter14 AdaptationProcesses inAgriculture andFoodSecurity: Insights fromEvaluating BehavioralChanges inWestAfrica JacquesSomda,RobertZougmore´, IssaSawadogo,BabouAndre´Bationo, SaakaBuah, andTougianiAbasse Abstract This chapter focuses on the evaluation of adaptive capacities of community-level human systems related to agriculture and food security. It high- lights findings regarding approaches and domains tomonitor and evaluate behav- ioral changes fromCGIAR’s research programonclimate change, agriculture and foodsecurity(CCAFS).Thisprogram, implementedinfiveWestAfricancountries, is intended to enhance adaptive capacities in agriculture management of natural resources and foodsystems. In support ofparticipatoryaction researchonclimate- smart agriculture, amonitoring and evaluation planwas designedwith the partic- ipation of all stakeholders to track changes in behavior of the participating com- munitymembers. Individuals’ andgroups’ stories of changeswere collectedusing most significant change tools. The collected stories of changeswere substantiated throughfield visits and triangulation techniques. Frequencies of the occurrence of characteristicsofbehavioralchangesinthestorieswereestimated.Theresultsshow that smallholder farmers in the interventionareasadoptedvariouscharacteristicsof J.
