Chapter15 UsingParticipatoryApproaches inMeasuringResilienceandDevelopment in IsioloCounty,Kenya IreneKarani andNyachombaKariuki Abstract This article highlights the process of using participatory approaches in measuring resilience using the TrackingAdaptation andMeasuringDevelopment (TAMD)Framework. The utilization of participatory approaches in IsioloCounty using the TAMD framework is aligned to the recent thinking ofmeasuring ‘sub- jective resilience’usingpeople’sperceptions toquantifyhousehold resilience.This article outlines the process of developing subjective indicatorswith communities, collection of baseline, monitoring and early outcome data by communities who wereassisted in thedevelopmentof theirownadaptation theoriesofchange. It also highlights the lessonsand implications forpolicy if theapproach is tobe replicated at sub-national and community levels.
