ErginaKavallieratou, Associate Professor. ErginaKavallieratouwas born inKefalonia, Greece, in
1973. ShereceivedherDiplomainElectricalandComputerEngineeringin1996fromthePolytechnic
School of the University of Patras and her PhD in Handwritten Optical Character Recognition
andDocument Image processing from the same department in 2000. She hasworked as a guest
researcher in theDept. ofTelecommunicationsEngineeringof thePolytechnic School ofMadrid; in
the InstituteofCommunicationAcousticsofRuhr-UniversitaetBochum,Germany; in theComputer
Science&Engineering, LehighUniversity, USA; atCVC,UniversidaddeBarcelona; and at Institut
Mines-Te´le´com/Te´le´comParisTech. During the years 2002–2004, shewas anAssistant Professor of
AudioProcessing in theDept. ofAudio andMusical Instruments Technology in theTechnological
Educational Instituteof Ionian Islands,Greece. She taught in theGreekOpenUniversity, 2001–2013.
SinceSeptember2004, shehasbeenamemberof the teachingstaffof thedepartmentof Information
and Communication System Engineering, University of the Aegean, and has been an Associate
Professorsince2017.Herresearch interests includeOpticalCharacterRecognition,Document Image
Analysis,ComputerVisionandPatternRecognition,andRobotics.
Laurence Likforman-Sulem, Associate Professor, graduated in engineering from ENST-Bretagne
(EcoleNationaleSuperieuredesTelecommunications) in1984andreceivedherPhDfromENST-Paris
in 1989 andherHDR (Habilitation aDirigerdesRecherches) fromPierre&MarieCurieUniversity
in 2008. She has been an Associate Professor at Telecom ParisTech in the IDS (Image Data
Signal) Department since 1991, where she serves as a senior instructor in Pattern Recognition and
handwriting recognition. Laurence Likforman-Sulem is an IEEE Senior Member and a founding
memberof thefrancophoneGRCE(GroupedeRechercheenCommunicationEcrite).Shechairedthe
programcommitteeofCIFEDheld inFribourg,Switzerland, in2006; theprogramcommitteesof two
DRRConferences(DocumentRecognitionandRetrieval)heldin2009and2010inSanJose,California;
andtheASAR(ArabicandDerivedScriptAnalysisandRecognition)workshopheldin2017inNancy,
France.
