Chapter18 TheAdaptationM&ENavigator:ADecision SupportTool for theSelectionofSuitable Approaches toMonitorandEvaluate Adaptation toClimateChange TimoLeiter Abstract With increasing implementation of climate change adaptation policies andprojects aswell as continued integrationofadaptation intoplanningprocesses, there is an increasing need to understand the results of these adaptation interven- tions. Are theyachieving their objectives? Are theyactually leading to a reduction in vulnerability to climate change? Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) can help answer these questions. However, due to the context specific and cross-sectoral nature of adaptation there is no one-sizefits all approach toM&E.TheAdaptationM&ENavigator helps to select a suitable M&E approach by providing a list of specific M&E purposes and matching them to relevant approaches. Key characteristics of each approach are highlighted to enable informed decisionmaking. TheAdaptationM&ENavigator also provides links to further guidance and examples from practice. The chapter outlines therationalandstructureof theAdaptationM&ENavigatorandhowitcan beused in practice. According to the 2015 Global Climate Legislation Study, more than 60 countries have frameworks in place for adapting to the impacts of climate change (Nachmany et al. 2015).
