workfocusesonproject/programmonitoringandevaluation,climatechangeM&E,
environmental economics, technology adoption andpolicy analysis.
Philip Thornton leads the flagship on “Policies and institutions for climate-
resilient food systems” of the CGIARResearch Programme onClimate Change,
Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). He is hosted at the International Live-
stockResearchInstitute (ILRI) inNairobi,Kenya,andbased inEdinburgh.Heisan
Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Geosciences at the University of
Edinburgh.Hehas aPhD inFarmManagement andAgricultural Economics from
LincolnCollege,NewZealand.His research interests include integratedmodelling
atdifferent scales andevaluatingclimatechange impacts andadaptationoptions in
smallholder farming systems in the tropics and subtropics. He has contributed to
several global assessments including the IPCC’sFourth andFifthAssessments.

Niger (INRAN)andheisa ICRAFfocalpoint inNiamey,Niger.HeholdsaPhDin
Biology and Silviculture from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. His
research interests includeAgro forestry, ClimateChange, Iintegration ofAgricul-
ture Livestock and Tree species production system and cultivation of high-value
indigenous tree species.
Pia Treichel is the Program Manager for Climate Change Adaptation at Plan
InternationalAustralia.With over 9 years’ experienceworking on climate change
with a focus ranging from local government to theUnitedNations, Pia currently
worksonchild-andyouth-centredclimatechangewithPlanInternational.Piahasa
Master ofEnvironment degree fromMelbourneUniversity.
Juha I. Uitto is Director of the GEF Independent Evaluation Office. He has
previously held positions asDeputyDirector andEvaluationAdviser in the Inde-
pendentEvaluationOfficeoftheUnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme(UNDP)
and asMonitoring andEvaluationCoordinator/Specialistwith theGEF. Since the
late-1990s, he has conducted andmanaged a large number of programmatic and
thematicevaluationsofinternationalcooperationat theglobal, regionalandcountry
levels, inparticularrelatedtoenvironmentalmanagementandpoverty-environment
linkages.Dr.Uittospent the1990swith theUnitedNationsUniversitycoordinating
the university’s environment and sustainable development research and training
programs. His earlier work included positions in the Nordic Africa Institute, the
InternationalFundforAgriculturalDevelopmentandasconsultant indevelopment
cooperation. He has had visiting positions in the Graduate School of Global
