It was esteemed beyond the local area and he also obtained com- missions from Zagreb and Graz. For the Cathedral in Graz, e. g., he produced a relief for the altar support showing the death of St Francis Xavier in the side chapel dedicated to the same saint. The rumor stirred the spirits of noblemen and the people of Trieste, who longed with high hopes and enthusiasm that the scattered hints should come true, and that the son should return the splendor to the town for a few days just as it glowed in 1660, on September 25, owing to the joyful arrival of his father, the great and forever august Emperor LEOPOLD, so that this generation may also renew their demonstrations of love and unswerving faith for their prince and lord, as their elders were fortunate to experience particu- larly on the occasion of such a glorious encounter. RELAZIONE DELLA VENUTA (as note 11), 7. 15 The upper part of the Trsat staircase was commissioned in 1725 by Gavro Aichelburg, Duke of Styria, Carniola, and Corinthia, and a captain of Brinj. At the beginning, there is a baroque porch with a relief from 1745 showing Our Lady of Consolation (Consolatrix aflictorum). Chapels along the stairs are dedicated to saints and served as stations on the penitential path for the pilgrims who came to venerate Our Lady of Trsat. The staircase has been restored and extended on several occasions.
