with a “cleaner” covariance function. This not only improves the stochastic model for the few arcs that do contain anomalous data, but for all remaining arcs of the month as well. It is important to note that modelling the errors in the antenna offset correction correctly does not necessarily lead to a reduction of the overall residuals. What this new model does allow for is the attribution of a certain fraction of the observed residuals to one of the two noise sources: The stationary noise due to the ll-SST system, or the non-stationary noise due to the AOC.
