The accurate position of the cooling channel is shown in Figure 12, in which the shell, the rim and the tire are also presented. All these will be parts of the developed thermal model in order to have a more accurate temperature determination. Moreover, during thermal analysis the temperature and the pressure inside the rim will be taken into account. Compared to other cooling system schemes, the proposed here topology enables a larger contact area between the stator and the coolant, simpler manufacturing and installation procedure and lower cost. The design procedure of the proposed here cooling system requires the incorporation of an optimization method along with the conduction of motor’s thermal analysis through FEM Figure 7.
