Calculations vs. Thermo-Couplers: Vertical comparison involving the Thermo-Couplers 7, 49 and 54 fixed at heights z=1.65 metres, z=3 metres and z=0 metres with the same (x,y) coordinates. -Vertical variations: Although little, air temperature differences for the first 12 hours were over calculated mainly above the canopy. Near ground this difference was smaller and occurred over shorter time period. For the last 12 hours of the day, air temperature differences were mainly under calculated at the ground surface along a larger time interval. Although under calculated above the canopy, temperature differences were smaller and the difference occurred over a very short time period. -Horizontal variations: Similar trends of air temperature variations were obtained from measurements and calculations along the continuous campaign of 24 hours. In contrast to vertical variations analysed above, horizontal temperature variations were much smaller. The mathematical model however over calculated temperatures for the first 12 hours and under calculated temperatures during the last 12 hours. 4. Improved modelling capabilities of urban unstable thermal stratification A numerical domain for an idealised canopy with street aspect ratio of 0.5 was created in order to assess thermal stratification in two distinct models (see, figure 4).
