Introduction Domestic energy consumption is influenced by the heating and air conditioning needs of buildings, with households devoting up to 66.6% of the thermal and electric energy consumed to said purpose [1]. In order to apply energy saving measures that will enable us to achieve buildings with a high energy efficiency and to fulfill the goals set by the European plan “Nearly zero-energy buildings”, it is necessary to have a good quality thermal isolation of the building envelope. There is two possible approaches to maximize energy savings. One is the reduction in thermal transmittance of envelope components, such as better isolation materials or new layer compositions avoiding thermal bridges. The other possible solution to improve energy efficiency is reductions to the absorbed energy, be it by radiation, conduction or other effects, such as the use of green roofs or ventilated chambers. During the last years, great efforts have been invested in developing low thermal conductivity materials for buildings and improving the efficiency of materials currently used in order to reduce the consumption of energy [2,3]. The field of construction focus efforts on this methodology, reduction of thermal transmittance, partially forgetting other possibilities available for energy savings. Clear example of this effect is the use of enclosures with a high level of thermal resistance, where however their exterior faces are made of metallic materials or corrugated surfaces, which favor thermal absorption.
