methodologies able to be used in a traditional Mediterranean style, one of them focused on the minimization of the absorbed heat through the use of cold paint and the other focused on thermal transmittance reduction of an envelope materials used as a mortar of plaster. Comparisons between both methodologies will make possible to introduce appropriate corrective actions in favor of energy savings. The paper is organized as follows: Section II describes the analysis performed on a wood panel-based construction where cold paint has been used to minimize the temperature difference due to solar radiation impact. Section III describes the addition of iron (III) oxide to lime mortars to improve the thermal behavior of the material. And finally, section IV concludes the paper. 2. Cold paint case analysis The first case analyzed try to improve the energy efficiency of a wood-based building that take into account energy savings and embedded CO2 reduction factors. Therefore, a multilayer wood panel was designed using eco materials (wood) creating a traditional wood made construction. The thermal solution analyzed in this case is based with the application of cold painting materials on the external surface, which have an extremely high solar reflectance index [4]. In addition, the building includes a WSN (wireless sensor network) embedded in the structure with temperature, humidity, solar radiation and thermal conductivity sensing capabilities, as well as an air-conditioner system which allows capturing live consumptions requirements to maintain adequate indoor comfort levels. 2.1. Modular multilayer wood panel description This building uses a new modular wood-made constructive solution proposed and patented [5]. The modular building introduces the use of natural materials like laminated wood and recycled wood (OSB – Oriented Strand Board) and rock- wool to analyze the effectiveness of these materials combined with a cold painting solution in terms of energy efficient.
