Figure 8. Graphical representation of the BOD5 of the liquid discharges of the 5 industrial units and the final
collector
BOD5 monitoring follows that of COD with lower values. It oscillates between 23 and
2462 mg of O2 / l with an average of 1082 mg of O2 / l. Slaughterhouse and final
collector values exceed those of the standards for direct discharge. Table 11 and figure 8
show the biochemical oxygen demand of the liquid discharges.

The COD / BOD5 ratio indicates whether the wastewater discharged directly into the
environment receptors have characteristics of domestic wastewater (COD / BOD5 ratio
below 3) [5]. The results are an indication of the importance of pollutants with little or
no biodegradability [6]. The wastewater has a COD / BOD5 ratio ranging from 1.06 mg
/ l to 4.67 mg / l, i.e. the liquid discharges of the agri-food units are in line with that of
the COD / BOD5 domestic wastewater less than 3 [5]. While those of the second unit of
margarine production. So, it can be concluded that even if the wastewater of these
releases have a high organic load, they are easily biodegradable. Table 12 show the
biodegradability levels due the measurement of COD / BOD5 of the liquid discharges.
