Figure 4 Online Course Statistics Display on a Laptop 3.2 Interactive Blended Learning Environment The Fanya Learning and Teaching online Platform coupled with the mobile Learning APP created an interactive Blended Learning Environment, which could enhance synchronous interactions in class and asynchronous interactions among students and teachers after class. Thus, students were immersed in a Mobile-assisted and Computer- assisted Language Learning Environment, known as MALL and CALL. The functions of the Superstar mobile learning (mLearning) App can also turn students’ mobile phones into classroom response systems, so that they can better interact with their instructors during face-to-face meetings. Teachers can also use their mobile phones to interact with the students as shown in Figure . Compared with asynchronous interactions within Computer-assisted Language Learning, the Fanya Learning and Teaching Platform enables teachers to start synchronous in-class activities through the Superstar mLearning App. Instructors can collect instant reports on student attendance and their learning in class through the functions of Sign-in and Quizzes. Additionally, Instructors can also use the Select function to randomly choose any student in class to answer questions, so as to better engage students in face-to-face instruction. Group work and Discussion functions can also enable the instructors to organize students’ small-team collaborative learning in class. Furthermore, all the data and results of the above-mentioned functions on mlearning app can be projected onto the screen in the multimedia supported classroom as shown in Figure . In addition to synchronous interactions with the instructor in face-to-face instruction, students can also participate in discussion forums after class. They can download all the resources of online course to preview before class and to review after class. Students can submit their course assignments in the form of English Speaking videos and then be evaluated by the instructor at anytime and anywhere with their mobile phones as shown in Figure . 5 6 7 M.Guoetal. /ACaseStudyofMobileBlendedLearning inTeachingEnglish 275
