leadership. By moving our Embassy to Jerusalem, we have shown the world once again that the United States can be trusted. We stand with our friends and our allies and above all else, we have shown that the United States of America will do what’s right and so we have.45 Here the United States is presented as a trustworthy nation that stands with its al- lies and does “what’s right”, language that claims moral superiority for the United States. For Kushner, peace is made possible by a strong America that recognizes and effects the truth, which is, in this case, that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. The United States is tasked with doing good, with the responsibility to do “what’s right”. Several times Israel is presented as a “blessing to the world”. The first occasion comes in the words of Pastor Jeffress, of First Baptist Church in Dallas (fig. 5), who conflates the ancient and modern Israels: Four thousand years ago, you said to your servant Abraham that you would make him the father of a great nation, a nation, through whom the whole world would be blessed.
