Klaus Tschira (1940–2015) created the German foundation known as the Klaus Tschira Stiftung. This organization is one of Europe’s largest privately funded non-profi t foundations. It promotes the advance- ment of natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science and strives to enhance the understanding of these fi elds. The focal points of the foundation are “Natural Science—Right from the Beginning,” “Research,” and “Science Communication.” The involvement of the Klaus Tschira Stiftung begins in kindergartens and contin- ues in primary and secondary schools, universities, and research facilities. The foundation champions new methods in the transfer of scientifi c knowledge, and Fig. A.1 Klaus Tschira at his welcoming address at the 11th symposium, “Topographies and topologies of knowledge,” in the series on knowledge and space, the Villa Bosch studio, Heidelberg, Germany. © Johannes Glückler, Heidelberg
