Editorial
Welcome to the first edition of LIMINA – Theological perspectives from
Graz, the new online journal of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the Uni-
versity of Graz.
LIMINA is a biannual publication, each edition exploring a different focus
by presenting scientific and innovative articles on topical issues in society,
science, culture, politics and religion. This edition includes a programmatic
overview that outlines the idea and theological concept behind LIMINA.
The theme of this inaugural edition is “Future Forces”.
Rainer Bucher kicks off the discussion by uncovering the driving forces
behind the current power structures that govern us. Taking Foucault as a
starting point, Bucher presents a nuanced analysis and offers an approach
towards resistance against culturally hegemonic capitalism.
Peter Ebenbauer and Isabelle Jonveaux look at ongoing transformations in
secular and religious rituals. Modern ritual practices may appear to in-
creasingly support individual autonomy on the surface, however, mecha-
nisms of submission still prevail underneath.
Andrea Taschl-Erber investigates the polarity between male and female ex-
periences of power and powerlessness based on exemplary Bible texts. She
reveals an element of critical thinking and action questioning intramun-
dane claims to power through a transcendental and divine instance.
Maximilian Lakitsch analyses power shifts in the face of refugee and migra-
tion movements, which currently pose the biggest challenge for the Euro-
pean peace project since the Second World War.
