Franz Winter Die Frage nach dem freien Willen des Menschen ist in den sogenannten abrahamitischen Religionen ein ständig reflektiertes Thema, weil sich mit der Idee eines einzigen, allmächtigen Gottes die Frage nach der Verant- wortung des Menschen für seine Taten stellt. Letzteres Moment wiederum ist essentiell angesichts des Konzeptes eines endzeitlichen Gerichtes über jeden Einzelnen, das diese Religionen propagieren. Diese Grundspannung wird auch im Islam deutlich. Der Beitrag gibt einen historisch orientierten Überblick über die Entwicklung dieser Fragestellung, die von den korani- schen Grundlagen bis zum prinzipiellen Abschluss der Diskussion mit der Kompromissformel von al-Ash‘arī (873/874– ca. 935/936) reicht. This, however, is essential for the concept of a final judgement of each and every one, which is one of the central presuppositions of these religions. Therefore, this issue is also at the centre of several debates within Islam . The article tries to provide a historically conceptualised overview of the development of the major trajectories, beginning with the basic ideas in the Quran and the later development up to the commonly accepted solution as provided by the influential theologian al-Ash‘arī (873/874– ca. 935/936).
