Final discussion The group agreed that the video exhibition should be considered only as a first step to present the Mauthausen Survivors Documentation Project, which can be enlarged later. The exhibition does not demand to be representative ; in the centre there are not national narratives but personalities to show the different forms of repression and that «Mau- thausen is one world». One of the main features should be the dignity or «Wahrhaftig- keit» of the survivors. Other principles of the exhibition can be (according to Botz) : a personalised history of Mauthausen, various «strategies» of survival, the wide diversity of experiences and stories told. There was no unanimous position towards the problem of the «message» of the exhibit. Frank Stern pointed out that the exhibition should make a clear difference to the Spiel- berg project ; this means no interactions but testimonies. Nevertheless, it should attract the visitors not only by narratives but also by images. Gerhard Botz raised the problem of information at the video points : How much in- formation should be given at the outer side of the video points, which information is needed at the inner side ? He preferred to present only few information outside, slightly more at the inside. In contrast, Frank Stern preferred very simple information inside. Bernadette Dewald and Alexander von Plato proposed a flyer for every video point which can be taken with. Brigitte Halbmayr proposed as a third information source a catalogue with the collection of all 20  biographies. The group agreed that the 20  interviews shown in the exhibition should be presented as 20 of 800 and that general information concerning the work of the MSDP and the choice of videos is necessary.
