136 Mobile Culture Studies. The Journal 6 2o20 (Travel) Mirja Riggert | Selbstporträt mit Spiegelreflex — Extended Abstract direct the attention to the mediatization of the travel experience. Thirdly, this form of metanarration — a picture reflecting on its own nature — com- petes with pictures showing the protagonist amidst the travelled scenery. The latter intends to authenticate the representation, as the observers witness the traveller’s eyewitness, while the first undermines this ‘direct’ reception. These modes of self-referentiality as presented in the metapicture and also in some text pas- sages that reflect on the act of blogging, prevent the fixation of a single view point. Rather they break the coherent self-presentation and seem to imply a reflected stance to the own narration. The blogger sublimates the personal travel representation to a feeling of responsibility for the recipients and outlines the travel experience as a higher sense for society’s engagement. While performing subjective inside views into the life of a travel writer and photographer, the bloggers create a platform for self-marketing and product placement at the same time. The discontinu- ous narration enables them to use advertising space for the self-financing without presenting a rather objective and commercialized platform. The individual perspective and its narrative gaps compensate this modus of a one-dimensional promotion platform of travel equipment.
