Identität durch Architektur im
Kontext türkischer Remigration
Über »Migrating Spaces«, ein Kunst- und
Forschungsprojekt
Stefanie Bürkle
Abstract Migration is a painful and yet creative experience. This is inquired in the project »Migrating
Spaces« (2013-2016) at the example of the houses of German-Turkish builder-owners.
It departs from the assumption that the relationship of re-migrants and their buildings
without architects is mirrored in the relationship of identity and architecture. This article
differentiates the emergence of non-pedigreed respectively anonymous architecture and
distinguishes three types of houses: model house, two-faced house, and multi-layer house.
Many of them have been realised in cooperatives and as kind of gated communities in
Turkey along the Mediterranean coast. The visual fieldwork into the present topic is seen
as a procedure of artistic research.
