But neither do they observe integrating effects in the media content. Only a
few think that ethno-media promote a good atmosphere between migrants and
Germans. Almost half of the Turks responded negatively to this question.
Yet, ethnic media do fulfill other important functions which presumably
support the intercultural integration of migrants. For Turkish and Italian
migrants, they represent an important linguistic, cultural, and emotional tie to
their homeland, a function that is significant only for a minority of the Russo-
