negativeconsequencesforthefutureofOrthodoxyinUkraineandobstructsthe
chances for reconciliation. Ultimately, the stance of the MP shows that the
tensions between East and West within the Ukrainian society are still in-
surmountable.
4. Twoconcretesteps fora reconciliation
ThecurrentUkrainianecclesial conflict certainlyhasreasonsrooted intheway
historical, cultural (i.e. language), political and ecclesial data have been in-
terpreted.30AChristianperspectiveonthisconflicthoweverimpliesthequestion
ofreconciliationbothasamandateof theGospel–asexplainedabove–andas
part of the civil society assuming a pioneering role in themultidimensional
reconciliation process between Ukraine and Russia.31 Therefore, the main
question of this part of the article is:What should happen at both the Pan-
OrthodoxleveloftheOrthodoxChurchaswellasatthenationallevelinorderto
deescalate the ecclesial conflict andengage in reconciliation?Even if these two
levelsinteractwitheachother,theywillbeconsideredseparately,witheachlevel
presentingapossiblewayoutof thecrisis.
4.1. Pan-OrthodoxLevel
Thefact thatapan-orthodoxbindingconsensuswithintheOrthodoxChurches
cannot be reached was undoubtably made very clear at The Holy and Great
Council of the Orthodox Church of 2016. Despite preparations that lasted
throughoutthetwentiethcentury,timeinwhichtheformalconsensusofall local
Orthodox Churches was reached concerning the Synod’s agenda and draft
documents, fourOrthodoxChurches (TheRussianOrthodoxChurch and the
PatriarchatesofAntioch,BulgariaandGeorgia)decidedat the lastmomentnot
to attend the Council. One of themost important consequences of this with-
