source sensible economywithin our globalized societies. The setting up of a
“green fence” by China in 2018 revealed the unjust and shameless incon-
sistenciesof theglobal rulingecopolitical elite andtheirpractical resourceand
waste regime. Countries throughout Asia are shipping waste back to their
countriesoforigininCanada,theUS,andEurope.“Indonesiancustomsofficers

fundamentally wrong in economic andpolitical thinking and policies, for in-
stance, how resources areunderstoodandhandled, locally andglobally. “Very
largequantitiesofplasticwaste leakintotheenvironmentfromsourcesbothon
land and at sea, generating significant economic and environmental damage.
Globally, 5 to 13million tonnes of plastics – 1.5 to 4%of global plastics pro-
duction–endupintheoceanseveryyear.It isestimatedthatplasticaccountsfor
over 80%ofmarine litter.”7 Indeed, a thoroughly neweconomic andpolitical
approach in dealingwith resources is needed and a termination of an embar-
rassing shallow throw-awaymentality of shippingwaste over 1000s of kms to
othercountries’backyards,nottomentionhowmuchofitendupintheoceans.
