PROTOTYPES ARE A THING OF THE PAST. PRIMOTYPES ARE TODAY. Better to develop the first solution more quickly. With a view to the StreetScooter, our goal was to get to the first results as quickly as possible, rather than extensively and time-consumingly plan – this kind of “perfectionism” just took us too long. In retrospect, we can now say that for us the “failure” is an essential part of our success concept. Instead of the lofty goal, to wait for the perfect pro- totype, we prefer the shortcut to the goal; knowing that the first solution will still have errors and will need to be optimized. But with a first 80 % solution, the launch base is already a very diffe- rent one and the development can proceed much faster. This way we can build and test precursors to classical prototypes early on. We call these precur- sors primotypes. We intentionally built early pri- motypes in the StreetScooter project too and used them for querying customer requirements. Besser schneller die erste Lösung entwickeln: Mit Blick auf den StreetScooter lautete das Ziel, möglichst schnell zu ersten Ergebnissen zu kom- men statt ausgiebig und zeitraubend zu pla- nen – diese Art von „Perfektionsstreben“ dauert schlicht zu lange. Rückblickend lässt sich heute sagen, dass das „Scheitern“ ein wesentlicher Teil des Erfolgs- konzeptes ist. Statt des hochgesteckten Zieles, auf den perfekten Prototypen zu warten, führt die Abkürzung zum Ziel. Wohl wissend, dass die erste Lösung noch Fehler haben wird und optimiert wer- den muss. Aber mit einer ersten 80%igen Lösung ist die Startbasis schon eine ganz andere und die Entwicklung kann deutlich schneller verlaufen. So lassen sich früh Vorstufen zum klas- sischen Prototypen aufbauen und testen. Diese Vorstufen werden demnach Primotypen genannt.
