Bei der Deutschen Post in Bonn hatte von einer Firma namens StreetScooter bis zu jenen Tagen im September 2011 noch niemand gehört. Das mag zum einen daran gelegen haben, dass der Street- Scooter elektrisch betrieben so gut wie nichts an Geräusch produziert, zum anderen aber war das Entwicklungsunternehmen StreetScooter, eine Ausgründung der RWTH Aachen, schlicht so gut wie unbekannt. Es eilte den Professoren und Ingeni- euren aus Aachen noch kein Ruf voraus, mit dem sie sich und ihrem StreetScooter-Projekt in Bonn hätten Gehör verschaffen können. Am 15. September 2011 besuchte Bundes- kanzlerin Angela Merkel die IAA in Frankfurt und schaute auch auf dem Stand der StreetScooter GmbH vorbei. Dort war das erste voll funktions- tüchtige Elektrofahrzeug gleichen Namens zu bewundern. Von Professor Achim Kampker ließ sich die Kanzlerin alles erklären. Frau Merkel hörte und sah, was sie erfreute: bezahlbare Mobi- lität, neue Produktionstechnologie, Innovations- beschleuniger, wirtschaftlicher Leichtbau. Nach Frankfurt war für den StreetScooter und für die Mannen um Prof. Kampker nichts mehr wie vor- her. Denn nachdem Kanzlerin Merkel in den klei- nen, knuffigen Stadtflitzer eingestiegen war, stieg schon bald die Deutsche Post AG ein – und das gleich in das ganze Unternehmen. Aber eins nach dem anderen. Große deutsche und internationale Tages- zeitungen berichteten von der IAA und von einer At Deutsche Post in Bonn, nobody had ever heard of a company called StreetScooter until those days in September 2011. This may, on the one hand, have been because the electrically operated StreetS- cooter made next to no sound, and on the other hand, the development company StreetScooter, a spin-off of the RWTH-Aachen University, was virtu- ally un known. At that time the professors and engineers from Aachen didn’t have any reputation to make their voices heard and get their StreetScoo- ter project noticed in Bonn. On September 15, 2011, German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the IAA in Frankfurt and also dropped by the StreetScooter GmbH booth. There, the first fully functional electric vehicle of the same name was proudly on display. The Chan- cellor let Professor Achim Kampker explain it all to her. Mrs. Merkel heard and saw something that delighted her: affordable mobility, new production technology, an innovation accelerator, and cost-ef- fective lightweight. After Frankfurt, nothing was ever the same for the StreetScooter and for the guys around Prof. Kampker. Because after Chancel- lor Merkel had gotten into the small, cuddly city car, the German Post AG soon got on board too, and they did the same for the entire company. But first things first.
