Sophie Rabitsch, Inge Boesken Kanold, Christa Hofmann 97 The experiments with orchil showed that it is possible to dye parchment by immersion in a dye bath as well as by application with a suitable tool like a swab or brush. With a tool, the colour has to be dabbed on in several layers on both sides, which is a time-consuming process. The advantage is that a smaller quantity of dyestuff is needed.
