216 The miniatures of the Vienna Genesis: colour identification and painters’ palettes ochres, yellow and brown ochres (Fig. 16). Visually, it is difficult to distinguish between different brown earth pigments. In general, painter A applied ochres in thin layers that often show abrasion and losses.
