Acknowledgments We thank the Austrian Science Fund FWF for enabling this research of the Vienna Gen- esis combining material analysis and conservation. The Vienna Genesis project would not have been possible without the generous support of numerous people. Andreas Fingernagel, the director of the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books at the Austrian National Library, entrusted the Vienna Genesis to us and supported us with his benevolence. The conservators of the Institute of Conservation contributed with advice and practical help. Cahit Karadana introduced us to the preparation of silver ink and bamboo pens. Helmut Molacek made the sink-mats. The Department of Digital Services supported us with photography and digitisation. Ingrid Oentrich took the UV-images. Veronika Wöber digitised the folios with outmost care. Our consultants included specialists from different fields that joined us for the expert meeting in November 2017. Verena Flamm encouraged the idea of a conservation research project and shared her long-term experience with parchment. Abigail Quandt was a men- tor of the project and accompanied it with her expertise and her contacts. Zita Breu and Helene Hanzer expanded our view on silver and silver objects. Virginia Costa contributed her profound knowledge of silver corrosion. Cheryl Porter and Mark Clarke advised us on pigments and dyes. Isabella Withworth was an invaluable help in all questions concern- ing dyeing. Andrea Pataki and Andrea Giovannini supported us with their expertise on parchment manuscripts and important feedback on questions of conservation. Sigrid Eyb- Green added her views on conservation and encouraged us throughout the project. Luise Raab dedicated her bachelor thesis to the investigation of papers coated with isinglass and Klucel G. Regina Hofmann-de Keijzer and Ines Bogensperger were always ready to answer questions on dyes. From the beginning, Bernhard Pichler supported our project and established the con- tacts to the Conservation Science Department of the University of Applied Art. Leonhard Gruber generously granted access to the climate chamber at the University of Applied Art. Juan Cazorla, Isabella Withworth, Prof. Luigi Menghini and Salvatore Cherchi kindly provided us with Roccella tinctoria, Lasallia pustulata and Chrozophora tinctoria. Gangolf Ulbricht was ready to listen to our concerns and to make a special Aloe ve- ra-Berlin Tissue for our project. Iwataro Oka and the Japanese paper maker Eikan Ebuchi provided us with custom made Japanese paper for the mounts. Sabine Stanek from the Conservation Science Department of Kunsthistorisches Mu- seum Wien conducted the Oddy tests of the materials for conservation and storage.
