The new party promised to abandon so-called party politicsandemphasizedinsteadnationalunity. Therefore, itmadeanattemptto integrate lowermiddleclassandworkingclassHungarians, too–amovehardly surprisinggiven the socialprofile of theHungarian inhabitantsof the city. But the party not only paid lip service to this inclusion, its larger representative bodieswere filledwithmembers from these social strata, such as locksmiths, railwayemployees, postal employees, et cetera.57 Theideaofnationalunitywasalreadyastrongindicationofthenatureofthe party: itwasaminorityparty, andtheprogramreinforcedthis impression. The main goal of the organizationwas not political, but rather organizational: to unite in one organization everyHungarian irrespective of political views and socialbackground, andtoorganizeHungarianlifeinthecity. Thus, thepartywas more like a cultural association that organized commemorations of historical events, cultural venues on the occasions of feasts, andwas a representative of special economic interests.58 ügye, in: Brassji Lapok 75 (02.04.1910), p. 1.; Dr.W[eisz] I[gn#c], Prodomo, in: Brassji Lapok85(18.04.1910),p. 1.;Abrassjimagyarv#lasztjpolg#rokgyu˝l8se, in:BrassjiLapok 76 (03.04.1910), p. 3.;Dr.W[eisz] I[gn#c],Amagyars#gp#rtalakul#s#nakk8rd8s8hez, in: BrassjiLapok110(15.05.1910),p. 1.;ABrassjiMagyarPolg#riP#rtalakulj8rtekezlete, in: BrassjiLapok(04.06.1910);Zakari#sJ#nosdoktorlemond#sa,in:BrassjiLapok199(02.09. 1910), p. 2.; A BrassjiMagyarV8grehajtjBizotts#gül8se 28.November 1910, in: Brassji Lapok272(29.11.1910),p. 4. 56 ABrassjiMagyarV8grehajtjBizotts#gül8se, in: Brassji Lapok (29.11.1910) 272. p. 4.; A BrassjiEgys8gesMagyarP#rtmegalakul#sa,in:BrassjiLapok275(02.12.1910),275.p. 4–5. 57 ABrassji Egys8gesMagyarP#rtmegalakul#sa, in:Brassji Lapok275 (02.12.1910),p. 4–5. 58 BrassjiEgys8gesMagyarP#rtv8grehatjbizotts#g#nakelso˝ül8se, in:BrassjiLapok(03.12. 1910)276.p. 3.
