In order to characterize an industrial pollution, one often considers the ratio DBO5 / COD, which gives very interesting indications on the origin of a pollution of the waste waters and the possibility of it treatments. For our study, this ratio is relatively high reaching 0.5 (greater than 0.3). This is the general case for discharges loaded with organic matter. This organic load makes the wastewater fairly unstable, that is to say they will evolve quickly to forms "digested" with the risk of release of odors. In fact, the wastewater from this collector is predominantly organic. Table 13 show the biodegradability levels due the measurement of BOD5 / COD of the liquid discharges. Conclusion The wastewater of the 5 industrial units located in the industrial zone of the city of Settat, have major physicochemical pollution characteristics which exceed mainly the general limit values of the direct and indirect discharges in the receiving environment, which represents a risk of environmental pollution, hence the need for at least pre-treatment at the source of this pollution. At the end of the assessment of the degree of organic pollution, it can be concluded that the wastewater from the final collector is easily biodegradable. Indeed, the examination of the COD / BOD5 ratio clearly shows the biodegradable character of the wastewater from the final collector to which a biological treatment seems quite suitable. Pre-treatment of this wastewater at the source (at the level of the producing units) has been essential in order to facilitate the treatment at the final treatment plant (STEP). This research represents our fist millstone. We are planning to carry on with other important vital steps aiming to develop newer and more complete and useful methods for smart water management in Morocco.
