video. When the customer is to watch the videos simultaneously, a first and second
dongle are readied.
1. When the customer is handed the menu, they are notified verbally that a specific
menu item is available and that by mounting a dongle for the application, the customer
can watch the first video introducing the menu item.
2. When the customer requests to watch the first video, the first dongle is presented to
the customer. For customers who have not installed the application, notification is also
made that the application can be downloaded from the URL displayed in the QR code,
which is presented by the first dongle.
3. When the first dongle is mounted on a customer’s iPhone that is running the
application, the first video is played, and the fact that the first video has been played is
recorded on the server.
4. After the customer plays the first video, if the customer orders a dish that includes
the introduced menu item, the second dongle is handed to the customer.
5. When the customer has mounted the second dongle on an iPhone that is running the
application, the second video is played, and an ethical token is distributed
demonstrating that the customer has performed an act of ethical consumption. Figure 5
shows an image of ethical token distribution.
Figure 6. Confirmation of acquisition of an ethical token
It was confirmed that use of the dongle interface enabled the user to gain an
understanding that specific items from the menu were made with consideration to the
environment and, thus, that this menu had ethical content.
Further, the majority of customers who viewed a video chose the ethical menu item,
which was approximately 1.5 times the price of the regular menu item.
