Table2. Important topics Topic Importance Articles Accuracy Theaccuracyof the resultsobtainedbysystems that relyonsensors for thecollect ofdata.Accuracyandprecisenessof results areverycritical and importantwhilemakingmedicaldecisions. [14,20,21,25,28] Security Security and confidentiality while collecting and transferring the pa- tient’s data is a very important aspect, as health data are sensitive and personal information. [11,24,29] Costs Use of sensors to collect data requires inclusion ofmultiple parts, like ahardware (Thesensor), a connectivity system,a storageunit, etc.The useof sensorsmayendupbeingverycostly. - Affordability Based on the costs, could patients afford having a sensor as a part of there treatmentprocess? - Technical issues Useofsensorsmayintroduce technicalproblems, thatmight limit there useandeffectiveness. [18,19,24] Patientsperspective Patients perspective, acceptance and engagement in systemswith sen- sors are important aspects that need to be addressed, as it may reveal issues thatneed tobesolved forabetterpatient experience. [11] Cliniciansperspective Clinicians perspective on the use of sensors, needs to be studied and taken intoaccountwhiledevelopingmedical solutions thatuse sensors, as itmayhelp improveandbringnewsolutions to thefield. - Guidelinesofuse Rules, instructions and guidelines on the use of sensors are important, as theyprovideageneral, efficientandstructuredwayforusingsensors. - Noneof the selectedpapershavepresentedguidelinesor frameworks, whichpoints to the lack of literature that proposes general and structuredways to exploit sensors in thementalhealthcaredomain. 4.2. Implications This studymayhave implications for researcherswho intend conducting studies on the use of sensors inmental healthcare as it provides an overviewof related literature, so- lutions proposed, their limitations and suggestions for future areas of research. We in- vite interested researchers to conduct their researchmore towards thementioned gaps on the literature, inorder to increase thequalityof research in this topic.Moreattention should be given to technical and accuracy problems of the use of sensors, security as- pects, studyingpatients and clinicians perspectives on theuse of sensors, validating the proposed solutions, addressing costs and affordability issues, andproposingguidelines, rulesandstructuredmethods to theuseof sensors inmentalhealthcare. 4.3. Limitations This study focuses on 17 papers selected using general search strings about connected mentalhealth.Morepaperscouldbefoundusingmorespecificsearchstrings.Theselec- tionwaslimitedto the title, theabstractandthekeywords, whichmayhaveimpactedthe finallistofrelevantstudies.PubMeddigital librarywasnotincludedinthesearchsources whichmayhave impacted the number of papers identified. However, as the searchwas focusedmoreontheengineeringaspectof the topicnot themedicalaspect, wethink that thishada limited impactofour selection.
