20 R.Mechler et al. Preservation: The Case of the Marshallese Diaspora byAlisonHeslin expands that conversation by addressing the consequences of the relocation ofMarshallese Islandersontheirculturalheritage,animportantcomponentofNELD.Thelow-lying islands of the Republic of theMarshall Islands, with little capacity to withstand evenminor increases in sea level and tides, are an important case in point, as its population is facedwith relocation in the immediate future. Interestingly, nearly a thirdof thepopulationalreadylivesoutsideof theMarshall Islands, benefittingfrom visa freeentry into theUnitedStates.Thisprovidesanevidencebase forhelping to anticipatefuturechallengesfacedbythosewhowillbedisplacedbyrisingsealevels. The study draws on data from interviewswithmigrants from theMarshall Islands regardingaccountsoflifeintheUnitedStatesandidentifieschallenges(differencesin livelihoods, familystructures, foodhabits, etc.),aswellasopportunities(betteraccess tovariousformsofemployment, improvedhealthcareandculturalpreservationinthe midstoftheMarshallesediaspora).Thestudyclosesbylayingouthowunderstanding themeans throughwhichMarshallesemigrantsmaintain cultural traditions and the challenges they face can help to address potentially irreversible, but in this case, avoidable lossesof cultural traditions in theevent ofmassdisplacement fromthese small islands. Suggestions have increasingly been brought forward regarding the potential for partnerships between public and private sectors and civil society for devising and implementingoptionsthatmanagecriticalclimate-relatedrisksatscale.Buthoware suchmodelsandpartnershipsorganised?Whatcanbelearnedfromexistingactivities andhowcanlearningbeupscaled?ThechapterSupportingClimateRiskManage- ment at Scale: Insights from the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance Partnership Model Applied in Peru and Nepal byReinhardMechler, ColinMcQuistan, Ian McCallum,Wei Liu,AdrianaKeating, PiotrMagnuszewski, Thomas Schinko and FinnLaurien reports on the learnings fromone suchpartnership, theZurichFlood ResilienceAlliance–amulti-actorpartnership launched in2013toenhancecommu- nities’ resilience to floods at local to global scales. The chapter presents learnings fromtwocaseswherefloodrisk,amplifiedbyclimatechange,hasbeenerodingliveli- hoods leading to some soft limits. TheArctic is a “laboratory” of physical transformation, where climate change is happening about two times faster than theglobal average; there is high evidence that meltwater fromArctic sources accounts for 35 percent of the current global
