Criteria selecting an interview(ee) After intense discussion in the «Mauthausen Survivors’ Documentation Project» we propose that for each national/ethnic/language group only one interview is possible (give your first choice) ; not nation etc., but person is in the foreground. But the se- lected video will be seen as representative (more on this later on). (If possible, indicate also your second choice in case the Vienna workshop does not wish to choose the video proposed by you.) From this interview (with the same interviewee) sections should be pre-selected which are of good image and sound quality, and have no other faults (third persons coming, barking dog, mobile phones  …). Of course, we have to discuss the interviews finally chosen in Vienna as a whole. At the end the outcome should – represent most ethnic/cultural groups among the Mauthausen prisoners, – represent the Jewish quota roughly (4–5 Jewish by the persecution criteria), – represent the gender distribution (2  women), – represent political (left and conservatives) as well as non-politicals, Jehovah’s Wit- nesses, homosexuals, «Gypsy» prisoners and other categories, – have a wide range of social strata among the interviewees. (Which other distinctions should we consider, given the limited number of the vid- eos ?) This proposal is open for discussion and change into every direction. In a mutual pro- cess of asymptotic approximation to a never obtainable optimal solution we should come to a negotiated and shared composition for the sum of selected videos. This is the first goal of this workshop. 3. Selected parts of the interviews The sections of each interview exposed in the exhibition can have a total duration of 20 to 30  minutes ; they will be cut and separated by subtitles, and they normally have the following composition : Part  I : «pre-history» : birth, family, political and other activities before imprisonment (about 5  min.) Part  II : «internment» in camp from first day to liberation (only significant episodes) (10 to 15  min) Part  III : «live after» Mauthausen, new persecution and discrimination (5  min) Chosen from the interviews should be mostly coherent stories (bows/arches of nar- rating, of about 1 to 5  min.), no shorter cuts should be necessary (we do not intend to Publikation im Sinne der CC-Lizenz BY 4.0
