Mauthausen»358
16) Hungary (Amesberger reported) : As Eva Kovács wasn’t present at the workshop
because of illness, the group could only watch the videos without explanation and
translation.
The first choice of the group, Pál Ferenczi, was replaced by the second choice, Gábor
Bán, because of Kovács’ arguments in written form, after the meeting. She favoured
with good arguments the interview with Bán, who was a participant of the death march
from the Hungarian frontier through Austria to Mauthausen and Gunskirchen, where
he met his brother again.
17) Czech Republic : Until then Jana Starek had not made any video interviews to
present. The interviews will be filmed from February 25 to March 6. Two videos are
planned, one with a political prisoner, Walter Beck, now president of the International
Mauthausen Committee, and one with a female Roma. The last one would be preferred.
18) Austria (2) : Hans Maršálek, Austrian, lived in Vienna, of Czech origin, joined the
communist resistance movement, arrested for political reasons, became «Lagerschrei-
ber» of the camp, after 1945 historian of the camp.
19) Belgium (Prenninger and Botz reported) : Selma Leydesdorff wasn’t present but has
made two video interviews, both in the Flemish part of Belgium.
20) Netherlands : Until now no video interviews are made.
Thus, the regional coordinators and experts being gathered here unanimously agreed
to the following choice :
