3. Theological andethical reflectionsonReconciliation.
Twopossibleproposals
Reconciliation is doubtlessly one of themost important concepts inChristian
theology, because it concerns the status of the relationship betweenGod and
humanity aswell as thatof humanbeingswith eachother. In theBiblicalwrit-
ings,reconciliationcarriesanimportantfunction.Itdescribesthere-established
communion between God and human beings through the salvific actions of
Christ.Afterabriefbiblicalanalysis,reconciliationwillbetackledinthedifficult
contextofnationalism.
Theaimofthissectionistoshowthatthenationalistic ideologycollideswith
the Biblical tradition of reconciliation, which is – as previously mentioned –
supra-national, even cosmic, as well asmutually related to other people. The
nationalism–especiallywhen it ispartofanecclesial agenda–suppressesand
impedesareconciliationprocess,which isacrucial exercise inChristianity.
3.1. Thebiblical traditions
IntheOldTestament(OT), reconciliationisusuallyexpressedthroughtheterm
kprpiel (“to atone”, “to reconcile”) and refers primarily to the restaurationof
humancommunionwithGod,asaresultofsinsbeingforgivenbyGod.Leviticus
