Thatnight, however, his conditionweakened, andhehad troublebreathing. HiswifeHelenacalledadoctorandtheir friendsTheodoraandLidiêDan,whosentBauerto aRussiandoctor.Whenthedoctorarrived,hefoundBauerdeadinhisbed.Likewise,Leichter arrivedatthehotelafterBauer’sdeath–seeHanisch2011,pp.373–4.
