Moreover, in this samesectionofCalcinara, inside thehorizontal inspection shafts, at least
threehollow reliefs or incised frameshavebeen identified, comparable to tabulaeansatae, the
dovetail panels thatwere intended to bear pinakes or inscriptions that have nowdisappeared
(Fig. 10). The tabulae ansatae are known in Sicily, especially in the southeastern triangle of
Sicily,where theybear inscriptions: for example, at Buscemi, close to the aqueduct.41 Theyare
