A: Hit you?
Chrisse: Yes, hit me lightly on my arm with the ruler. First I didn’t mind, but now
it gets on my nerves.
A: You find it difficult then to say no, when it gets on your nerves. And how can
you concentrate on the lectures then?
Chrisse: Only partially, then I concentrate on one point, and then I withdraw into
my fantasy world.
A: Do you know the exact point in time when you go into your fantasy world?
Chrisse: In arithmetic, when he’s talking and I can’t follow him, then I go into my
fantasy world.
A: When you’re frustrated because you don’t understand the teacher, you make
up a story where you can determine the plot.
Chrisse: (taking a calendar out of her bag) I have a calendar where I write all
my important appointments. (reading aloud) I went to the hospital, Tuesday
I have to do English homework. I’m expecting a text message from a girl
I met at the hospital, she wants to see me. On Friday, I’m coming to you.
(shows me her school identity card) This is the first time I have an identity
card.
A: You are showing me you are making a great effort to keep your things in order,
as you want to make order again in your head. When it gets difficult, you
make up a story.
Chrisse: Yes, my story goes like this: I invented a Manga girl, whose mother died.
She was stillborn. (reflects) Or more like: her mother died before she was
born, and she was cut out of her body. Her father had a wife who was sick, it
was life -threatening. He took out her soul so that she would become healthy,
but she died. With the girl’s mother, I had only a one -night stand and didn’t
know she was pregnant. He took out her soul and she died. When he discov-
ered that she was pregnant, he called excellent doctors to save the baby’s life.
But she was saved and came in an incubator where she can stay for a long
time. Then she was put up for adoption. She comes to three adoptive fami-
lies, all three die. It only goes well with the fourth family. There’s a father,
a mother, a sister and her. She later discovers that she is half spirit and half
human. She has magical powers.
A: When you think of the story, you’re thinking of a girl who hasn’t gotten enough
in life. She wasn’t a full nine months in her mother’s belly, she came into an
incubator, her mother died and she can’t find a secure place. In the story, you
are expressing your feeling that you didn’t get enough care and understand-
ing. But there is hope, since the girl finds a fourth family, hope that your
family can understand you and that I can carry your problems with you and
understand them. You are describing a painful and difficult life.
Chrisse: (Thoughtful, then takes out a book, the second volume in a series. She
seems rather absent.) This is the second volume of a vampire story. (She tells
the story in detail.) I want to get the first volume, because I want to know
how it began.
