Abstract Open Science is a phenomenon that can be traced back to theMiddle
Ages. In theendof the twentieth centuryand thebeginningof the twenty-first cen-
tury,OpenScienceisstronglygrowingduetotheworldwideinternetandrelatednew
technologies,toolsandcommunicationchannels.Twocoreobjectives(reliabilityand
trust) and threemaincharacteristics (transparency,opennessandreproducibility)of
OpenScience canbe identified but it is still too early for a broaddefinition of this
growingmovement.Itsgrowthishappeninginmanydisciplinesandindiversefacets.
ThisarticlepresentsanoverviewofhowOpenScienceis introducedandestablished
in all three science dimensions of research design, processes andpublications. For
the future, the benefits are analysed that Open Science is offering, as well as the
challenges that it is facing. Itcanbeconcludedthat it isdesirable thatall researchers
collaborate inOpen Science.Open Science can improve the different science dis-
ciplines, research practices and science in general. In thatway,Open Science can
contributetoovercomethepost-truthagethroughincreasingobjectiveandsubjective
credibilityof scienceandresearch.And in the long-termperspective,OpenScience
