Wo fängt für Sie der Moment an, in dem Neues gedacht wird? Prof. Kampker: Ich glaube, dass es gar nicht so sehr darum geht, nur neue Ideen zu haben, sondern die Ideen, die es schon gibt, sinnvoll zu kombinieren und tatsächlich umzusetzen. Was kann einer guten Idee gefährlich werden? Es gibt so wahnsinnig viele Ideen und kluge Leute und Dinge, die schon durchdacht worden sind. Aber oft hat dann der Mut, die Überzeugung – ich weiß es nicht – gefehlt, die Sache anzupacken und zu tun. Der Flaschenhals heißt Umsetzung, durch diese Engstelle muss die Idee durch, sonst kommt im wahrsten Sinne nichts raus. Wie sehen Sie sich? Sind Sie mit dem StreetScoo- ter zum Erneuerer geworden? Ich sehe mich nicht wie der große Mann mit der Einzelidee. Ich sehe eher etwas und füge das in einem Puzzle zusammen. So entsteht ein neues Bild, etwas Anderes, etwas Besseres. Ich entdecke Neues durch Beobachtung, wie man es in der Natur macht. Ich finde immer wieder fas- zinierend, wie viele Dinge man bei Tieren oder Pflanzen findet. Bionik? Ja, genau. Man findet Vorbilder in der Natur, Tiere, die genau diese Mechanismen, nach denen wir suchen, seit Jahrtausenden, Jahrmil- lionen benutzen. Da sage ich mir dann: Mensch, dieses Beobachten ist es doch. Was haben wir als Menschen wirklich erfunden? Haben wir es nicht eher gefunden oder herausgefunden, dass es das schon gibt. Sie sind Professor und leiten einen Lehrstuhl. Kann es sein, dass Sie auch Unternehmergene in sich tragen? Ich fühle mich weder in der einen noch in der anderen Welt komplett zuhause. Es ist für mich die Kombination, es gehört für mich zusammen. At what moment do you think of something new? Prof. Kampker: I believe that it is not so much a matter of having new ideas, but of mea- ningfully combining those ideas that already exist, and actually implementing them. What can turn a good idea into a dangerous one? There are so many ideas and clever peo- ple and things that have already been thought through. But oftentimes the courage or maybe the conviction to tackle the matter and get it done is lacking. The bottleneck is called implementation, the idea has to go through this bottleneck, other- wise literally nothing comes out. How do you view yourself? Have you become an innovator with the StreetScooter? I do not view myself as the great man with the one and only idea. Instead, I see something and put it together to form a puzzle. This crea- tes a new image, something different, something better. I discover new things by observation, the way it is done in nature. I always find it fascina- ting how many things you can find in animals or plants. Bionics? Yes, exactly. You can find models in nature, animals, which have been using exactly those mechanisms for which we are looking, for mil- lennia, millions of years. Then I say to myself: man, this observation is the answer. What have we really invented as human beings? Didn’t we simply find it or found out that it already exists? You are a professor who is the head of an acade- mic chair. Could it be that you carry entrepreneu- rial genes? I do not feel completely at home in one world or the other. For me, it is the combination, they belong together for me. Research is not an end in itself. Research just for the sake of research is not enough for me. 94 > 95
