Forschung ist kein Selbstzweck. Einfach nur das Forschen um des Forschens willen ist mir zu wenig. Man muss Dinge auch testen, ausprobie- ren, schauen, was sie taugen. Ich sehe für mich das Thema Neues generieren immer im Anwen- dungszusammenhang. Und dazu kommt: Ich bin auch kein Einzelkämpfer. Man kann gar nicht alles alleine stemmen. Man braucht Mitstreiter. Dann macht es für Sie Sinn? Für mich muss das klar sein und dann macht es mir richtig Spaß. So war das für Sie auch bei der Elektromobilität? Das E-Auto als solches, das ist keine neue Erfindung, gibt es schon. Und das höre ich ja auch allenthalben. Aber das, was wir jetzt gemein- sam geschaffen haben, dass die Autos tatsäch- lich gebaut werden und mittlerweile erfolgreich im Einsatz sind, das muss man sehen. Insofern ist mit dem StreetScooter schon was Neues entstan- den. Aber es ist eben nicht das neue Auto, sondern die andere Herangehensweise an die Entwicklung und Realisierung. Wir sind durch den Flaschenhals und jetzt läuft es. Wie bewegen Sie Andere, wenn Sie alleine nicht genug sind, wie Sie selber sagen? Grundsätzlich bin ich hier in meinem Umfeld auf Menschen getroffen, die vom Grund- satz her offen sind für die Idee und ähnlich ticken wie ich. Diese dann zu begeistern, indem man glaubhaft machen kann, es ist tatsächlich ein Mit- tun und nicht für mich tun, ist sehr wichtig. Dann muss man den Mitspielern auch immer Freiräume geben. Auch das ist wichtig. Auch wenn sie es dann teilweise anders machen, als ich das machen würde oder mir vorstelle, trotzdem ist das super und gut und das ist, glaube ich, der Weg, der tat- sächlich alle weiterbringt. You have to test things, try them out, gene- rate new ones in the context of the application. And moreover: I am not a lone wolf either. You cannot challenge everything by yourself. You need comrades-in-arms. Then it becomes meaningful for you? For me it must be clear and then it is really fun for me. Was this also the case for you with the electromobility? The e-car as such is not a new invention, it already exists. And I hear that everywhere. But what we have now created together, the fact that the cars are actually built and are now success- fully in use, is something to behold. In this respect, the StreetScooter is a new invention. But instead of being the new car, the approach to the develop- ment and realization is different. We’re through the bottle neck and now it’s up and running. How do you involve others when you alone are not enough, as you say? Basically, here in my environment, I have encountered people who are in principle open to the idea and who tick as I do. To then inspire them, to be able to convince them to actually get invol- ved and not just for my sake, is very important. You always have to give latitude to the other play- ers. This is also important. Even if they do things partially differently than I would have done or imagined them, it is nevertheless great and good and I believe this is the approach that actually pro- pels everything forward. So: responsibility, identification, meaning. The object is at the forefront, not me the person, for example. It is not about my reputation, about me, not about the fact that I have really push ed an idea this far.
