Deutsche Post is pursuing ambitious climate tar- gets. By 2020, it wants to improve its CO 2 efficiency by 30 %. And when it comes to the future of elec- tromobility, the company relies on know-how from Aachen. Gradually, more and more Street Scooter- type electric cars are being put into operation. While the StreetScooter is on the road across the cities and regions of Germany, making a strong sta- tement about Deutsche Post’s commitment, back in Aachen, they’re already busy taking the next step into the future – with the driverless StreetScooter. The self-driving StreetScooter isn’t meant to take jobs away from mailmen; it’s meant to make their jobs easier. But how? When in self-driving mode, the StreetScooter follows the delivery people at walking pace as they deliver packages and letters. The idea? The delivery people won’t have to cons- tantly drive the mail car up, inching house-by- house anymore. The technology already works; the guys in Aachen are just waiting for the green light to run field testing. Autonomous driving and other e-Volutions The tests are run on the Avantis test track. Deutsche Post DHL is setting up and expanding the Avan- tis Innovation Park in Aachen/Heerlen on the Ger- man-Dutch border at the Deutsche Post test site for the development of innovative delivery methods. Und zwar mit dem fahrerlo- sen StreetScooter. Der autonom fahrende Street- Scooter soll dem Postzusteller nicht die Arbeit wegnehmen, sondern dessen Job erleichtern. Wie das? Der StreetScooter im Modus autonomous folgt den Zustellern beim Austragen der Pakete und Briefe in Schrittgeschwindigkeit. Die Idee: Die Zusteller müssen die Postautos nicht stän- dig wieder vorfahren. Die Technik funktioniert bereits, nur die Erlaubnis für den Praxisversuch steht noch aus. Autonomes Fahren und andere E-Volutionen Die Tests laufen auf der Avantis-Versuchsstrecke.
