Taking stockof the results, the following canbe stated: – Book clubs are based on a more vertical and expert model than literary gatherings,which try touseamoreegalitariananddemocraticmodel. – Themeeting timeframes inbothcasesare flexibleandadaptable to theneeds of thegroup. – Academic intelligence is particularly valued inbook clubs,while cultural in- telligence is valued in thedialogic literarygatherings. – Debates are moderated according to clear rules that are well-known to all members indialogic literarygatherings(askingtospeak, turn-taking,etc.), in ordertoensuregroupattentionandrespect forallopinionsandargumentsat all times.This couldbe improved inbookclubs. – Inbookclubs,all typesofbookscanberead,whiledialogic literarygatherings are limited touniversal classics. – Themethodologyofdialogic literarygatherings ismoreopenandhasgreater organisational opportunities than book clubs, as an expert is not required, thanks to the principles of dialogic learning on which they are based. The procedure isclearerandmoretransparentthaninbookclubs,whichmakes it easy foranymemberof thegrouptomoderate themeeting,andforeveryone to be aware of and follow the basic rules that ensure all participate satisfac- torily in thedebates. – Bookclubshaveboth face-to-face andonlinevariants (genres, authors, etc.). 4 Conclusions Depending on the profile of the social organisation, on the profile of the par- ticipants and on the interests pursued, the format that ismost stimulating to themshouldbechosen:eitherbookclubsor literarygatherings.Bothmodels,by combining individual reading with the group’s verbal discussion of the book, helptoachievethethreefoldchallengeof innovationinreading:tofosterreading comprehension, to promote a taste for reading, and to develop the habit of reading11. Readers, whenparticipating in a book clubmeeting or in a dialogic literary gathering,changetheirstartingpointandexperiencesomeinternalgrowth.This takesplacebyreadingthebook,sharingtheir interpretationsabout it, reflecting on the work and becoming involved in a shared reading process, followed by anotherandthenanother,sothattheirreadingcomprehension,tasteforreading andreadinghabitsareenhanced,giventhesuccessofbothstrategiesasevidenced 11 Avci/Yuksel2011,Gritter2011,Reed/Vaughn2012.
