b. Vienna, March 19, 1909, d. Vienna, March 24, 2000, suicide. Employee and politician (Austrian Social Democratic Party, SPOe). Managing director of the Union of Private Employees and vice president of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (OeGB). 1962-1970 and 1970-1974 member of the Nationalrat, 1970-1976 Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Social Affairs; a leading authority in legal questions of labour and social policy (Constitutional Labour Laws). Imprisoned for political reasons from 1941-1945.
